Because they had such a ball at last years banquet, and as a special favor to H.H.T.J., Willie "The Red Headed Stranger" Nelson and Kris Kristopherson have agreed to play together at this years event to honor their fallen comrades, Waylon Jennings & Johnny Cash of "The Highwaymen" (damn, we miss Waylon and Johnny!)!  Willie says that since they are going to be in town anyway to play in our annual Rib-Off Scramble, they would enjoy the opportunity to "give something back" to the little people.

The Awards Banquet is open to all Rib-Off Judges, Competitors and Pilgrims, but certainly NOT Armadillos! (As in the past, there will be no charge for the banquet or the entertainment, compliments of H.H.T.J.!).

SATURDAY OCTOBER 25, 2008 - RIB-OFF XXIV

12:00 noon - Competitors Meeting

Judges, Contestants & interested Pilgrims meet to discuss the rules & regulations governing the event. Ribs will be distributed at this time unless you get yours earlier for marinating purposes!

12:18 p.m. - "Gentlemen...Light Your Fires!"

Opening ceremonies and Parade followed by the Official Shotgun (or pistol, or firecracker, or whatever) Start.

12:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. - Rib-Off Olympics

Various contests, games and tests of skill.

Tom "Take Me Home" Wilbourne,  (last year's winner of the Rib-Off Chip-Off) will conduct a clinic on "How to chip a golf ball off a doormat, under a limb, over a pontoon boat and into a floating hula-hoop in the river" just prior to this year's "Rib-Off Long Drive" competition.

For the past few years the golf skill challenge has been a "Chip-Off" competition which required incredible accuracy, touch and skill.  This year, since we are moving the event back down by the river, H.H.T.J. has decided to return to the original "Long Drive" Competition that so many Pilgrims loved. Previous winners, which include Web "Conehead" Manderson, Kory "Meatball: Taylor, Larry "Crowdog" Crowley, Lee "Lee-Lee" Frazer, Barry "Boo-boo" Stephens, David "Chip" Cothran, Rick "Guitar Man" Williams, Barry "Hopsing" Stapp and Jimmy "Boom Boom" Cothran, will be signing autographs beside the river, where, at one time or another, they whupped everybodys ass to become the Rib-Off Long Drive Champion!

It will be a glorious event for everybody because, instead of a competition that required incredible skill and superior touch, it will now be a contest of brute strength, which is what "real-men" care about!  This year's event will be conducted by former Long-Drive Champion, Gordon "Gordo" McLendon.

2:00 p.m. - Rib-Off Stickhorse Rodeo

Conducted by perennial winner, H.H.T.J., contestants are required to provide their own stickhorse. H.H.T.J.'s faithful steed, "Willamena" offspring of the famous "Wanda the Wonder Horse" (who was undefeated for 18 years prior to her retirement in 2006) will make a special appearance and will be available to be petted by her adoring fans and admirers.  The competition is fierce but loads of fun will be had by all!  (Bad news..."Mustang Sally", the filly who dominated last year's contest will be competing in Atlanta this year and won't be able to attend our event.  However...we expect her to return next year for the 25th Annual Rib-Off!...H.H.T.J.)

3:00 p.m. - 1st Annual SRRC Charity "Shoot Off"
Conducted by the members of the Selma Riders, RC Motorcycle Club this event is designed to give all the Rib-Off attendees the opportunity to win an ass of money and help a worthwhile cause at the same time!  Details to follow.

5:00 p.m. - Time to Eat!

Ribs are served and judged. Bring your appetite because there will be plenty to eat for everybody!
